Entry Description

The concept behind this project was to establish the next generation of Qantas International lounges, whilst incorporating the best of local and regional influence to create a unique and memorable experience for Qantas customers to relax, dine or work prior to their flight

The Qantas Singapore Lounge celebrates the vibrant nature of the Singapore outdoor hawker centre dining and its chic lifestyle. The layered textual and spacial design provides customers with a varied and relaxed atmosphere with unique lounge features. The lounge has been best described as, “a hotel without the rooms”.

The Lounge is distinguished by different zones accessed by what can be described as “streets”.

The reception, bar and dining area are located in the main street, where the heart of the lounge is focused, creating vibrancy, action, movement, interaction between customers and staff.

From there you move down the paved side streets to more quiet areas where people who want a bit of down time can relax with a quiet drink or something to eat.

Some Singaporean local elements, like Peranakan floor tiles were incorporated to the reception area, a link to Singapore heritage and old shop-houses. The use of urban finishes like the polished concrete floor and bars, paver style floor tiles. A touch of greenery and the use of timber finishes and bamboo floor which reflects the nature and warmth of Singapore.

The aim was to encapsulate the atmosphere, lifestyle and everyday life of Singapore. The heart, the essence and soul of Singapore. Bring the experience of Singapore all the way through the journey not for it to stop at the check-in counter.
