Entry Description

The client’s objectives centered on revitalization of the central Atrium of this landmark Dallas convention hotel with over 2000 rooms. In response, EDG envisioned the soaring 30,000 square foot space as a park-like Asian garden, accentuated with a stunning overhead kinetic sculpture. The design pays homage to the hotel’s priceless Asian art collection and to the Atrium’s history as one of Dallas’ top entertaining spaces.

Lush landscaping, a 160-foot reflecting pool, new seating areas and a modern tea pavilion anchor the Atrium and a gallery-like entry was developed in the façade, opening up the space to arriving guests with a sense of drama.

As part of the project, the Designer orchestrated a design competition to commission a kinetic sculpture, which was created by San Francisco artist Rueben Margolin. As an integral part of the design, the wave like sculpture is reflected in the reflecting pool and changes light throughout the day and night.

To serve the Atrium’s visitors, the Designers created two new restaurants on the perimeter of the space: A grill and bar with state of the art interactive technology serves lunch and dinner, converting to an ultralounge at night; and a casual venue provides direct service to the Atrium by transforming from morning patisserie to evening wine bar. The perimeter locations were developed to free up the Atrium from typical centralized service, and help promote the garden experience.

The new design renewed the hotel’s identity with sensitivity and soul. A garden at its core andelegant, hypnotic sculpture at its apex, the Hilton Anatole Atrium is a dynamic destination for generations to come.
