Entry Description

A pedestrian bridge was to cross the A-2 motorway without intermediate supports, to connect a residential area with a shopping mall. The 51 m long main span, constituted by a trapezoidal composite box girder with a slenderness ratio of almost 80, is suspended from a single, free-standing pylon 17 m high via a parabolic top chord and hangers made of circular hollow profile shapes. As it is approaching the mall, the deck splits into two access branches, likewise suspended, one of which forms a stair and the other a ramp. Formally, the structure is a self-anchored, spatial suspension bridge.
