Entry Description

The new Synagogue is designed as a place of worship and a cultural centre, to serve the Emanuel congregation and the wider community.

Its orientation and dimensions are based on specific biblical references, reinterpreted to respond to contemporary conditions. Acacia timber veneers are used for the reader's desk and ark in accordance with these ancient specifications.

Abstract religious artwork is integrated with the fabric of the architecture representing the Parting of the Seas and the Seven Species and expressing the narrative of salvation from bondage and redemption to the Promised Land
