Entry Description

ANITA HIRLEKAR is a sustainable label based in Reykjavik, Iceland. Established in 2014 the eponymous brand creates sophisticated and feminine designs with a playful touch. Taking an artistic approach to fashion, A/W 19 has an unconstrained use of color & texture. The designs have a strong attention to innovative prints always focusing on sustainability. Our signature is to develop a vision that reflects the uniqueness of the human hand, combining handcrafts with an high fashion sensibility. We are committed to sustainable practices. All of the products are entirely made in Iceland, Reykjavik.

Bio

ANITA HIRLEKAR was founded in 2014 by the Icelandic based designer Anita Hirlekar following her graduation from Central Saint Martins where she completed both a BA (Fashion Print) and MA in Fashion Textiles. Since graduating in 2014 Anita Hirlekar has received international acknowledgment. Anita´s unique vision of style & colors was recognized when she was chosen as one of four ones to watch designers at London fashion week SS 16. The collections include timeless, wearable pieces in feminine silhouettes designed to empower women to celebrate and express their individuality.

2014 Selected as one of 11 best fashion design graduates in the UK by Fashion Scout London

2014 Selected by BVLGARI LVMH to create innovative and contemporary handbag in the leather good universe.

2015 Shortlisted for the Icelandic Design Awards

2016 Selected to showcase at Fashion Scout's Ones To Watch programme for spring/summer at London & Paris fashion week.

2017 Selected work to exhibit in For Fashion Sake at ESPOO museum of modern art in Finland

2018 Chosen by award winning film director Rungano Nyoni, to design handmade dress for BAFTA´S award ceremony.

2018 Selected work to exhibit in Vasteras Art Museum in Sweden.

2019 Winner of FASHION DESIGN OF THE YEAR at Reykjavik Grapevine Awards, Iceland.

2019 Received the Icelandic Artist Salary fund for 12 months.
