Entry Description

Built in 1873 as the world's largest silk mill, Velvet Mill is a stunning Grade II* listed building dominating the Bradford skyline in the north of England.

The lower floors have been refurbished to create apartments and community spaces with carefully restored concrete arches; exposed cast iron columns and sensitive insertion of contemporary windows into the huge existing openings.

At roof level, two storeys of penthouses have been developed in the form of a woven metal plait. This provides secluded apartments with magnificent views and makes Velvet Mill a beacon for future regeneration.
