Entry Description

Title: Finn/Wake
Description: As a typographic installation, "Finn/Wake" reconstructs a night-dream series text from James Joyce's novel: Finnegans Wake. Where Ulysses was Joyce's book of the day, Finnegans Wake is his book of the night, of the dark. Joyce purposely obscures what our eyes can see by blurring over 17 different languages. In this installation physical shape sculpts Joyce's murmurings with black text
on a black wall. Painted as a night-time landscape where language and vision are never fully discernible, the viewer experiences a moment of Joyce's word play, outside of the page.

Materials: masonite, wood, paper, mounted with insect needles.
