Entry Description

The cinema was originally fitted out with a humble budget, without proper acoustic considerations, and the seats were packed tightly so as to allow the maximum accommodation of audience. Unlike other mainstream cinemas, the Hong Kong Arts Centre agens' b Cinema focus on showcasing art films or other indepedent productions that brings to the cinema goers an alternative choice.

The Hong Kong Arts Centre, a non-profit making, non-governmental and self-financed statutory arts organization, was granted with a funding to refit the cinema. While the physical enclosure can not be altered, the seating arrangements have been reprovisioned, adding more legroom for each seat and replacing the old seats with more comfortable contemporaries. The result means the number of seats are greatly reduced, but matches well with the current cinema operations and markets.

To stay in tune with the ever changing, multi-facet artistic operations of the centre, it was decided that the refitted cinema must give a consistent impression. Furthermore, the venue will host not only movie presentations, but also a wide range of activities like concerts, chamber music, and talks, therefore, the tone to be chosen must have a well balanced consideration, taking into account of the different requirements at different time.

The walls were fitted with mineral acoustic panels, painted in various tone of grey, which would vanish in the dark, but still offers a dynamic backdrop for other activities when the light is on.

The newly fitted cinema, with state of the art digital projection capability, will bring to the audience a new level of experience.
