Entry Description

A shape between art and product
This is not an armchair, or at least what appears as an armchair. There is, between an object and its
aesthetic dimension, an aspect that stimulates our gaze or leads it elsewhere, almost to a condition of
transcending the perceptible realm to which both the object and the word naming it belong. One
could say so about the armchair designed by Carlo Colombo, but such statement would not be
exhaustive of the range of meaning to which words and what they indicate belong, of the load they
carry. Both architecture and art are part of those poetics of making space that point to the free expanse
in which openness is located. Design is located in between, but there is another form to which such
singular expressions of appearing and becoming surrender; and these are those of form and of man’s
inhabiting and of his imagination.
