Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Bridge

Lead Designers
Prize(s)Silver in Architecture Categories / Urban Design
Entry Description

Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing will be a new 1.7 kilometer bridge in Dubai, and the largest and tallest spanning arch bridge in the world. The bridge?s form, a simple arch, is the most basic of structural solutions for spanning great distances. This particular application, however, is informed by the culture, topography, light and script of the region. The bridge will not be merely a link the City?s cultural and commercial developments or ease congestion, but an opportunity to connect people both physically and emotionally by creating an iconic landmark, destination, and gateway between the old, the new and the future Dubai. The bridge will provide six traffic lanes in each direction plus two lanes for the extension of the City?s Green Metro network as well as a sustainable transportation station, pedestrian walkways, and at its midpoint, an amphitheatre, ferry terminal, and multi-modal access to one of the world?s future leading cultural institutions ? The Dubai Opera House. Once complete, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing will be a signature piece of infrastructure; symbolizing Dubai?s commitment to innovation, design, and culture.
